Nurmambet Kadriye - Muzică populară turcească (1984)
Kadriye Nurmambet was a Tatar traditional folk singer from Dobrudja (which is also my native region). She recorded Tatar and Turkish folk repertoire during the Communist period, and enjoyed a great reputation for her voice.
This is one of her very few records (and, by the way, features both Turkish and Tatar folk music, despite what the title may suggest, as ethnic Romanians, for historical reason, tend to lump in Turks and Tatars from Dobrudja together) - and it is an immaculately period folklore record for that time, with such a professionalism that maybe makes it feel a little stilted.
Or maybe it's just me who's feeling like in an ethnological museum... Maybe that's just because there are virtually no instrumental breaks, it's straight-ahead vocal-instrumental folk music, and the music itself lends itself to lesser interest compared to the wonderful vocals and to the lyrics.
It was nice for me to check this out without much knowledge on the folklore contained, but it's not a record like Karolina Cicha & Bart Pałyga's Płyta tatarska / Tatar Album, that can be worthwhile even for people, like me, who are not keen on any and all ethnomusicological documents - and I say this despite not wanting to be harsh when it comes to my roots. :)(
