Konduku - Ebedi (2024)
Konduku is a Dutch-German producer, with some Turkish origins as far as it seems. He caught some of my attention with Kıran, a decent record that surprised me by sampling José Padilla.
I'm glad I've checked this new EP out, intrigued by the track titles ("Kilim" is a kind of Persian carpet, "Meskendir" is a place in Cappadocia, "Ebedi" is a Turkish word of Persian origin meaning "eternal", "Hafif" means "light", "soft", and also happens to be the family name of the monochrome painter Marcia Hafif)... It's late in the evening for me at home, and this audition was a perfect fit for my settings.
So anyway, my comparison may be way off, but this reminds me - except for a great deal of nuance and progression, and more complexity to the percussion - of the very best of Ricardo Villalobos, as in his tracks that are based on more organic sounds and get at times a bit closer to classical minimalism.
This EP hasn't been reviewed yet on RA, but the artist's previous releases received raving reviews there - and it's precisely the kind of well-produced electronic record one can be pleasantly surprised to discover despite any prejudice towards RA... I mean, it happened to me before.
